(A Wireless Spy Camera)

If you have ever watched any of the Big Brother episodes then you’ll know what it’s like to live your life in front of the camera 24/7; but in Big Brother they know that people are watching them.  How would you feel if you were being watched by someone without your knowledge?  That is the main issue concerning the use of spy cameras; you don’t know when someone out there is taking a video of you.

Most first world countries, including the United States, have installed spy cameras in public places; these are placed on street corners, transportation systems and government buildings.  Their reasoning behind this move is to make the streets safer for their citizens; but how much privacy would one wish in exchange for their safety?

Some say that a picture might be worth a thousand words but sometimes even videos can only tell half the truth.  Circumstances of an accident might not be caught by the spy camera and the person that the video portrayed as the bad guy might be the victim after all.

Then again, that could just be a minor thing; the majority of the time, a spy camera can help solve crimes.  A hit and run can be caught by a traffic spy camera and the culprit will be given the punishment due to them.  Criminals would also think twice about committing a crime if they know that they are being watched.

Maybe a little privacy lost would be enough sacrifice for a more secured environment; but spy cameras used by the government should have their limits.  These should only be used in places where crimes are rampant; in crowded places, such as a busy street, spy cameras can help prevent pickpockets and traffic violations.  Yet in suburban roads where people know each other, it might not be a good idea to install one.  One thing is for sure, spy cameras will keep on rolling whether you like it or not.
